Transportation

Please review misconduct form in the handbook with your child to help them understand why these rules are in place and how important it is to follow them.

• Do not allow your child to go out to the bus stop with prohibited items, such as: glass items, animals, insects, reptiles (alive or dead), etc. 

• Ensure your child is at the bus stop between 5 and 10 minutes before the scheduled pickup time.

• Elementary late bus stops are the same as their regular bus stops.

• Middle school late bus stops are different from students' regular stops.

• Please provide a parent note to your child if they need to take a different bus or bus stop. The school office must approve the note in advance.

• If you have concerns or would like to report an incident, please call the Transportation Office at (480) 642-1540, or send an email to bus@tempeschools.org. Please, do not confront a driver at the bus stop or at the school about a problem.

• Only authorized Tempe Elementary Schools students may ride a school buses. Please do not send friends along to ride the bus with your child. Parents are also not permitted to board school buses.  

• If the bus is running late, students should wait at their regular spot stop. Parents may call the Transportation Officer at (480) 642-1540 to verify the bus status.

• Parents should keep emergency information current at their child's school.

• If a child is ever injured on the bus or at the bus stop, the bus driver will refer the child to the school nurse. In a serious situation, the parents and/or paramedics will be notified.

If the bus arrives in the afternoon and your child is not on board, one of several things may have happened.

Your child may have:

• Missed the bus
• Stayed after school
• Taken the wrong bus. 

If you are at the stop, ask the driver for assistance. Otherwise, first contact your school, then Transportation at (480) 642-1540.

Our Special Needs Drivers and Assistants are responsible for transporting over 600 students daily. Depending on a student's address, their bus stop is either in front of their residence, at another specified address, or at a centralized location within an apartment complex or trailer park.

Can't find transportation through the district bus system if you're located out of district? There are options!

The Free Neighborhood Circulator Shuttle called ORBIT, offered by the City of Tempe, offers 6 different routes operating 7 days a week. 

Free Annual Youth Bus Passes are also attainable through the Tempe Youth Transit Program allowing Tempe and Guadalupe kids ranging from ages 6 to 18 to ride all Valley Metro bus routes and light rail for free. Visit City of Tempe for more information.
